Tips for Splash Pad Fun/Safety
Liz Carpenter Fountain – Splash Pad – Austin, TX
A visit to your local splash pad is a great way for you and your kids to cool off and have some fun. Children of all ages love playing in the interactive water features while adults can relax knowing their children are safe from some of the hazards presented by swimming pools or large water slides.
There are some things to keep in mind that can help ensure everyone at a splash pad is able to fully enjoy their time. Here are a few tips to consider for your next outing to your favorite splash pad:
-
Be mindful of sun protection.
Sunscreen, hats, sunglasses and other sun-protective gear will prevent over-exposure from the sun.
-
No running!
Just like you would avoid running on a pool deck, you should also encourage children to avoid running on the surface of a splash pad. Not only will this help prevent injuries from a fall, but also collisions with other children.
-
Have spare swim diapers on hand.
Many of the children that love playing on splash pads are still wearing diapers. If you plan on being at the splash pad for a while, be sure to bring a spare swim diaper or two. This helps keep the water sanitary for everyone.
-
Bring water and a snack.
It’s important to stay hydrated while playing out in the sun. Be sure to bring a water bottle and maybe a small snack to keep your children energized and happy while at the splash pad.
-
Consider wearing water shoes.
While most splash pad surfaces are safe for children’s feet, there are instances when it might be better to wear water shoes. Shoes can also come in handy when it’s time to make a trip to the restroom.
-
Towels and beach chairs can come in handy.
Some splash pads offer nearby seating for parents who are wanting to keep a close eye on their children as they play. Still, it may be a good idea to bring your own seat just in case. You’ll also want to have a nice dry towel ready for your child once he/she is ready for a break.

Keep an eye on your kids
One of the reasons parents love taking their kids to a splash pad is that it can be safer than a swimming pool, which allows parents to relax a bit. You still need to make sure you are watching your children as they play to make sure they stay where they need to be.
